The Democratic Party has won a historic majority in Korea’s 21st General Election. The Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) projects the Democrats will win 174 of the National Assembly’s 300 seats.
Yesterday, Korean Election Blog.com analyst Lee Jong-eun said my bold prediction of 160 seats for the Democrats–at a time when most Korean newspapers were projecting the Democrats would win somewhere in the high 140’s–was extreme. Apparently not extreme enough!
The Democrats ran up even bigger margins in the Seoul Capital Area than before, winning over 90 seats of the 122, including 11-out-of-12 in Incheon, while the opposition United Future Party did eliminate most of the few Democrats who held seats in Busan and the southeast.
